Policy forms, carrier practice and state law all vary. Nothing written here describes your document. Read your own, and ask somebody licensed in your state before you act.
Figures are checked against primary sources before publication and dated where they change over time. Errors still happen. When one is found it is corrected at the top of the next letter and the archived version is amended with a dated note.
No warranty is given that the content is complete, current or applicable to your situation. Decisions you take after reading are yours.
Letters may carry sponsored placements. Where a link pays us, that is stated in the same paragraph as the link rather than in the footer. Sponsors do not choose topics, see letters before publication, or receive any subscriber data.
The Walkthrough is written under a pen name. The person writing it is real and the professional experience described is real. The name is not.
Subscription is free and requires you to confirm your email address before any letters are sent. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in every letter.
We may decline or end a subscription without giving a reason, though in practice this only happens with addresses that bounce repeatedly or that are used to abuse the reply channel.
The letters and this site are our copyright. Forwarding a letter to somebody, quoting a short passage with attribution, or printing one for your own use is fine and encouraged. Republishing a whole letter elsewhere, or using the content to train a model, is not.
The letters are delivered by email and archived online using Substack and Ghost. Where you read or subscribe through one of those platforms, that platform's own terms apply alongside these, and it may set its own rules independently of anything written here.
Links to outside sites are given because the source is worth reading. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they say.
