Privacy Notice

Last updated 17 September 2026

This page explains what happens to your email address if you subscribe to The Walkthrough, written in plain language because that is the entire point of this publication.

What we collect

One thing: the email address you type into the subscription form. We do not ask for your name, your address, your age or anything about your household, and there is no field on this site where you could give them to us.

This website sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.

Who processes it

The list is held and the letters are delivered using Substack and Ghost, which act as processors on our instructions and hold your address only in order to send you the publication. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data: substack.com/privacy and ghost.org/privacy. This site is served by Cloudflare. Nobody else receives your address, other than where the law obliges disclosure.

Substack records technical information when you open or click a letter, including approximate location and the type of device or email client used. This is standard for email delivery and is how open and click rates are produced.

Double opt-in

After you submit your address, Substack sends a confirmation email. Nothing further happens until you click the link inside it. If you do not click, you are not subscribed and you will receive no letters.

What we use it for

We do not sell, rent, trade or share your address with advertisers or with anybody else. Letters may carry sponsored placements; those sponsors receive no subscriber data and never see your address.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe. Every letter carries an unsubscribe link, it works in one click, and we do not contact anybody who leaves.

Your rights

You may ask at any time what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted entirely. Write to the address below and we will do it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or California law, including the right to opt out of any sale of personal information — we do not sell any, but the right exists regardless.

Children

This publication is written for adults and is not directed at anybody under 16. We do not knowingly collect addresses from children.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that affects you, the change will be mentioned in a letter rather than quietly posted here.
